Sage burning or smudging has a long history of use in Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Native American medicine and healing traditions. For centuries sage has been burnt to cleanse a person or a space, to protect, heal and promote wisdom.
When it comes to its healing properties, sage has been used in the old times to boost defense against diseases to treat digestive issues, sore throats, and memory problems, among others. The word ‘sage’ comes from ‘salvia,’ which, in Latin, means ‘to feel healthy.’
Also, during smudging, the sage smoke purifies the air in that space, killing fungi, viruses, and bacteria, which are the cause of many health conditions.
At the Village Rock Shop, you can find dried sage leaves but also smudging sticks that combine organic California white sage with other cleansing herbs such as lavender or rose petals.
